The brief: to extend and remodel a beautiful period house in Highgate, North London. The owner approached us to look at ways of extending the accommodation to create a more contemporary layout to suit the needs of their growing family. The scheme evolved to remodel the existing bathrooms to create a chic wet-room and a stylish and practical family bathroom, and to extend the building at the ground floor to accommodate a WC and extended kitchen/dining space.

In addition, the remainder of the house was refurbished to a high standard. Planning permission was gained and the spacious family kitchen area was designed in detail to allow sunlight to stream in through big roof lights, and for the whole space to open to the extensive landscaped gardens to the rear.  This allowed the main family functions to always take place in the context of views of the sky and the garden.

As a vote on the success of the project, we are very pleased that the client has returned to McBriar Architecture to ask us to look at extending the house even further.
